Mithun Basak, aged forty-six years, specializes in Kantha Stitch embroidery and handloom products. Being born in a family of artists, Mithun, since his very childhood, has been inspired to pursue his career along creative lines. He wanted to explore art at its very core and create something unique yet mesmerizing to the eyes. This propelled his skills to be finer and more intricate with time. The strange fact is that he is a self-taught artist who simply learned the art by observing other artists in his locality. Mithun at present employs around 55 people under him to assist him in his business affairs. He has been pursuing a career along creative lines for the past 25 years, which is indeed a very long time as this also enabled him to intertwine different art-forms with Kantha Stitch and expand his artistic creations. He has been involved with a local welfare organization named Charulata, which supports and promotes artisans in Birbhum. The range of his products varies from sarees, blouses, Punjabis to dupatta, Kurtis, etc. His products act as a blank canvas for expression, which he aesthetically designs using his creative imagination.
