Bolpur happens to be the home of thousands of talented artists, of which Sukumar is one of them. He has been a resident of Bolpur since his birth. From his very childhood, Sukumar has been stitching a variety of intricate patterns and doing batik work by observing the works of local artists. He has mastered both the art forms with utmost perfection over the years and at present produces a range of aesthetically infused kantha stitched and batik items. His creations can be identified as perfect fusion of rural aesthetics and modern design. Sukumar has been practicing kantha stitch and batik work for over 15 years now. Currently, he is pursuing his own handicraft business with the help of 4 local artists, whom Sukumar has employed under him. Together with his unit, Sukumar produces a vast variety of ethnic and fashionable apparels including saree, stole, unstitched blouse piece, readymade kurta, Panjabi and others
