Madhuchanda Ghosh

Madhu Chanda is proficient in kantha stitch, block printing, textile printing, natural dye and khesh work. She is one of the executive members of Amar Kuthi, a local welfare organization committed to enhance life and livelihood prospects of artisan community in Bolpur. Creative endeavors like hand painting, stitching, have attracted Madhu Chanda’s attention since her very childhood. Partly learning from her mother and partly by observing the works of local artists, at present Madhu Chanda has acquired flawless proficiency in multiple art forms and happens to be a pioneer in her field. Her artistic imagination has inspired her to produce innovative items by intermixing different art forms, like producing both kantha stitch and block work in a particular product, thus adding to the aesthetic uniqueness of her products. Madhu Chanda has been pursuing her handicraft business for the past 22 years and at present employs more than two hundred local artists to assist her in her creative endeavor. By taking assistance from her unit, Madhu Chanda currently produces a range of aesthetically innovative items like kantha stitched home furnishings, block printed ethnic garments like saree, readymade kurta and intricately handcrafted bags and other accessories.
